Certainty!

I had just purchased coffee in a covered Styrofoam cup and crawled back behind the steering wheel in our van. Not planning well, I started on the next leg of our trip only to realize that I hadn't transferred the hot drink to my insulated metal road cup. I asked my wife to pour it from one cup to another for me as I drove back toward the interstate.

She somewhat gingerly held the flimsy store cup and pouring process out over the floor. I commented that the lid would stay on just fine and she could pour more aggressively if she liked. With that in mind, she reached over to do the transfer over MY LAP. I protested at that move and she observed, "Then you really don't believe that the lid will stay on?" She had a good point. If I was certain the thin plastic lid would stay in place, why should I worry if she poured it over my lap, hers, or the floor? I decided I was not THAT certain!

Someone once said that we can only be certain of death and taxes. Nevertheless, most of us, if we are mentally healthy, live like many other things are certain. Driving a highway, you are most likely certain enough that someone will NOT cross the centerline coming toward you that you are willing to stream by them at 65 miles per hour. If you had strong doubts, you would alter speed or never drive such a road. You are probably certain that flipping a light switch won't cause you an electrical shock or you might test before touching it.

Now, are you certain your particular belief in the existence or non-existence of God is true? Are you so certain that you are willing to bet eternity on that belief?

Why not examine the claims of Jesus Christ so you have something on which to base your belief? He claimed to be the Son of God and the only one that could make it possible for you to come into the presence of God the Father.

If Jesus' claims are false, we are all in the same boat. If His claims are true, only those who believe what Jesus said can have eternal access to God.
