Resolve to Seek the Lord #578

The nation was divided. Priests in the north, Israel, joined their friends in the south, Judah. They went together to the temple in Jerusalem to worship. Those from all the tribes of Israel who set their hearts on seeking the Lord God of Israel followed them to Jerusalem, to sacrifice to the Lord God of their fathers (2 Chronicles 11:16).

The Lord is God. In the New Testament the Lord God is Jesus Christ (Romans 10:9). To seek Him means looking to Him with Bible reading and prayer. Seeking the Lord means regularly joining God’s people for worship and praise. It means joining in corporate prayer and listening to the public reading and exposition of the Bible. Seeking the Lord means forsaking things God finds distasteful (Isaiah 51:1). Seeking the Lord means trusting in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ as the only adequate payment for sins (Isaiah 55:6).

To set your heart to seek the Lord means you are genuinely inclined to seek God through Jesus Christ. You do not hesitate (1 Kings 18:21). You are not double-minded (Psalm 119:113). You understand the promise, Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded (James 4:8).

Here is a New Year’s resolution worthy of the name. Set your hear to seek the Lord.
