A Hopeful New YearIt was five years ago that my wife and I flew to London in the hopes of finding a new heart and a new life. We went to London with hope based upon our faith and knowing that God would be with us. My wife started us reciting from the Bible, Philippians chapter 4: verse 4, which begins with, "Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say Rejoice." The verse also says not to worry about anything, but pray about everything ("Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Philippians 4:6). And so we did, and five months later prepared a new heart and a new hope. Now, after September 11, we again look for new hope and a new heart to go on and share the love of God in Christ to fearful and hurting people, some of whom have lost hope. And so I would ask all of us to make a New Year's resolution based on Philippians 4:4 and ask God to give you a new heart in Christ Jesus and rejoice in the Lord and the new year. Then together, as the front line soldiers in this war, we will witness to all of God's love in Christ and give them hope and new life. Happy New Year!
