God Demonstrates His Love #393

In the same way, God demonstrates His love. Here is how the Bible puts it. “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”(Romans 5:8). The cross is not simply a public display of affection. People caught up in the love of God encounter the cross. God’s love does not embrace the pretentious and self-righteous. God’s love grips the unlovely. God comes to the criminal, the liar, the swindler and the cheat. He comes to people who realize they cannot earn recognition from Him.

God sends Christ into the world as a surrogate. Criminals deserve punishment. Christ is the ultimate substitute in the game of life. He accepts capital punishment for those who deserve the death penalty. They also put their trust in Christ’s sacrifice on their behalf. They have nothing to offer Him and everything to gain. When we realize our need of Christ and trust in Him, we receive the demonstration of God’s love.
