Excitement Seeking Worship #394There are a couple of profound results. For one thing, old-fashioned Christian worship is on the decline. It is boring. What do you mean sit around singing placid hymns and songs, reading the Bible and listening to sermons? Give me a break. Better yet, give me some entertainment. Give me some music that gets the adrenaline pumping. Tell me some stories that excite me. Old-fashioned religion too often makes me feel bad. I want to feel good all over more than anywhere else. Isnt main-line Christian worship passé? Then too, rest, relaxation, reading and contemplation are out. Being quiet is a lost art. The Christian day of rest is also lost. We do not have time to contemplate the eternal, read the Bible, pray with our children, or enjoy the simple things of life. Yet most folks complain of stress filled lives. Our jobs are pressure cookers during the week. We pressure ourselves on the weekends. We have to get the work done around the house so we can go to the ball game. We worship excitement.
