Stranded
2 Peter 2:9 The Lord knows how to rescue Godly people from their trials. It is so wonderful to have the privilege of staying in an oceanfront condominium. I enjoy watching the flow of the water- low and high tides-and stand in the awe of the miracle of God's handiwork. As intriguing as they are, I recently witnessed a drawback when the tide came in. Because of it, a beach walker was stranded on the crosswalk by our back porch. It appeared she started her walk when the tide was coming in, but perhaps was unaware of that fact or she didn't realize how fast it rose. Whatever the case, she could no longer walk in the sand, for the surf was rolling in at a fast pace. The waves rolled in, one after another, relentlessly, sea spray flying high and white foam lapping at the foot of the stairs. There was no way for her to escape, lest she step into the icy water of the high tide of the Atlantic. She stood for a very long time - waiting out the tide. It finally receded, and she resumed her walk. So, to put her story in a nutshell, I could say the tidewaters caught her unaware, she sought higher ground, and she waited out the storm and then resumed her walk.
As we walk along the beaches of our life, the story is really no different. We may be taking a pleasant stroll, and, boom! The incoming tide can catch us unaware. It may bring unpleasant issues for us to deal with or hardships to endure. It may involve any number of distasteful problems or questions that seem unanswered. The key to dealing with this comes in the second step, where the girl sought higher ground. We too, must go to higher ground when life's miseries lap at our feet and threaten to take us out to sea. We must wait out the storm with the Lord, on His higher ground. We can abide with Him and lean on Him for comfort, wisdom, truth and strength. Then, when the tides recede, we must remember to take Him with us as we resume our walk in life.
