A Far Greater Treasure

My dad likes to travel, and he's getting ready to take a couple trips soon.I often travel with him. We've visited Las Vegas several times - not because we're gamblers, but because we have relatives there.

I've known people who have won big on the slot machines. Though I wouldn't mind having thousands of dollars spill out of a machine into my pockets, that's not likely to happen since I don't gamble. I know I have a far greater treasure anyway!

I posess a treasure that can give great joy, help me get to heaven, and change my life on earth. It's free of charge and available to anyone. It's a love letter written especially for me (and you) from the heart of the all powerful creator of the universe. It is the Bible, the Word of God.

If God suddenly appeared to you today and wanted to talk to you, I'll bet you'd drop whatever you were doing and pay close attention to what He had to say. Yet, we have available to us a message directly from Him and many of us ignore it. Is your Bible hidden away on a shelf? Or do you even own one?

In some countries, it's illegal to read the Bible. In others, Bibles are expensive, so only the wealthy people can own one. Because I cleaned my bookshelves a while back and gave away several Bibles, I only have five in my house now. Most homes around the globe have NONE and wish they could even have access to one they could borrow periodically.

Do you realize how fortunate we are to have this treasure available to us? Do you appreciate what you have there sitting on your coffee table collecting dust? Do you take advantage of the freedom you have to learn the wisdom it contains?

You don't have to travel to Vegas and gamble for riches. The greatest treasure in this world is available to you wherever you are. It may be as close as that dust-covered bookshelf in your own home. Why not take out your Bible, dust it off, and get to know God a little better. You may be surprised at what his love letter has to say to you.

P.S.If you have an old family Bible written in King's English, it will be difficult to understand. I suggest investing in a newer, easy-to-read translation like the New International Version.
