Does it Feel Like a War?

Be... alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. -1 Peter 5:8The stony silence continued for days.  On the surface, it looked like everything was fine. Life went on as usual. He went to work, I took care of the house, cooked, carpooled the kids everywhere. Everything was not fine, however. The disagreement my husband and I had hung in the air. It didn’t feel like a battle, but I wasn’t at peace. There was no resolve to it yet.

For months now, our country has been bombarded with facts and statements from the government telling us we are at war. Yet day to day, I don't feel like we're at war. There is no shortage of gasoline, or water, or food. No rationing. No massive drafting of young people to go overseas and fight.

Granted this is a different kind of war than ever before. In the light of some some recent info from the media, I realized that regardless of what it feels like, the reality is we are very much so in a war. Yes, ever since 9-11 we have been in a full fledged war with terrorism. The face of the enemy looks like Islamic extremists, living all over the world, who will stop at nothing until they have taken over everywhere. All in the name of Allah, their ‘god’, who is not Jehovah God, the Lord of hosts.

We are all in another war every single day of our lives for as long as we live. This enemy is subversive, sneaky, and relentless also, and has a terrible plan for our lives. He doesn’t want to simply distract, or deter us, from Godly living. He wants to ruin, wreck, and utterly destroy us.

Quite some time ago I heard a pastor make a thought-provoking remark, ”If you don’t know you’re in a war, you’ve already lost the battle.” So- even though we may not overtly feel we are in a moment-by-moment war with satan, we most assuredly are.

The good news is we know Who wrote the last chapter, and Who wins.
