Forgive and Forget

"Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old" -Isaiah 43:18Have you ever felt very sorry about something you said or did, thus, sought forgiveness from the person you hurt?

At one time or another we all have in-acted in ways that may now make us feel ashamed. This is a result of our limited and often weak human condition. We usually mean well, yet, as human frailty has it, there are often times we need to seek reconciliation with God. Strangely, even though God has forgiven those of His children who call out to Him in sincere repentance, keeping no record of past wrongs, it is not uncommon for man to dredge up what the Lord has long ago buried. The worst offenders of this are married couples.

We pull out old skeletons from the closet to hurt and humiliate our loved one, and we use long ago resolved issues to further injure and jab. God cleans the slate of those who sincerely repent, yet man tries to over-ride the Divine by playing back past mistakes over and over again like a tired and worn old movie.

What purpose does this serve other than to cause further pain to the person we are attacking?  In all the verbal jabs and blows, there is another "victim." You and I.

Every time we dig up what God has buried, we are, in essence, telling God that our will is more important than His truth. Knowing this, how many of us will still be intent on using the past as a war weapon?

Today, won't you consider making peace with the past by letting it die the death it deserves? Only God could be so good to give us this second chance; this new lease on life!  Show your spouse you love him or her by agreeing to never use past mistakes as a future or current judge. There is only one Judge. His name is God.
