Oh, The Wonder of it AllHow do you describe the wonder of Christmas? It is so wide, that a hundred people would describe it in a hundred different ways, but to me it is inexorably related to the presence of the Lord. The wonderful truth is that, because of Christmas, the Lord is present, here and now, with me and in me, and with you and in you. I may not feel his presence, I may not even be aware of it, because sometimes he hides himself, and sometimes I turn away from him, but, amazing as it is, he always is near. He was there when I was born, and when I was baptized, though I knew it not. He was there, and had been all the time, when I first became aware of him and was converted, and when I first met his Holy Spirit; and I knew it. I could not see him, but I could feel him, and I knew, without any doubt at all. I am sometimes so aware of myself, that my thoughts drift away from him. But even when I cannot feel him and do not know his presence, he, of course, is still there, because he promised he would never leave me, and his promises are true. This is the real wonder of Christmas, that he came into our world, and that, by his Holy Spirit, he is always present.
