Resting

Psalm 4:8 I will lie down in peace and sleepWhen I was seated on the plane, I saw the toddler with his parents across the isle.Uh oh, I thought... This will be a doozie, as I have heard children crying profusely on previous flights. A bottle was given to the child upon takeoff, and all went well. Before long, however, he got very fidgety and wanted to run up and down the aisle. He did so several times until the drink cart posed a problem. As the parents tried to settle him down in a seat, he began to squall. Not just a whimper cry, I might say, but a really loud bawling spell. Soon his father took the child in his arms, and began to whisper something to him. The sobs decreased from almost hysterical, to soft sobs, then hiccups, then... peaceful quietness. Yes, the toddler had fallen asleep in his daddy's arms, having been soothed with soft words and enfolded in his arms of love.

The same is true with our heavenly Father. In the beginning, when we board the plane of life, parents or other loved ones take care of us. Then we want to run around, up and down the aisles of living, trying our own thing. Before long, an obstacle will get in our way, and if we don't like it, we just complain, grumble or perhaps squall. What we need to do, however, is go to the Father, give Him our problems, listen to Him, and rest in His arms. He so wants to hold and care for us- during the difficult times as well as the contented ones. We can rest assured that His Word will give us knowledge and wisdom. His unfailing love will give us comfort, and as the melody of peace sings in our Spirit, we will have sweet sleep as He hold us to His heart. Thank you, Lord, for this promise.
