Checkmate

Have you played chess?   If you did, we can relate a little bit. I was a chess "good" player in my childhood. With all the people I played with, I enjoyed one expression "checkmate." It is an expression loaded with feelings of victory, triumph, relief and the opponent's looks of shock and disbelief. The best game used to be when I "checkmate" my opponent early at the game when he still has piles of knights, pawns and other critical pieces harmlessly standing there.

The great news is that our Saviour Jesus Christ has already "checkmate" satan so early in the game for you and me and eternally sealed our victory with His Blood and Wounds. All what satan has is piles of "principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness and spiritual hosts of wickedness" (Ephesians 6: 12) harmlessly - as long as you are sealed with Jesus' redemption - standing there.

Satan, knowing we are visual beings by nature who tend to judge and feel mostly based on what we see, piles his defeated army to deceive and scare us. To overcome him, we need to give the lead to our inner eyes - the eyes of faith - the eyes of utter trust in Jesus' victory - the only eyes that can recognize that satan has already been defeated regardless of the intensity of his attacks or the diversity of his soldiers and methods.

While our physical eyes can see only through light, our inner eyes can see only through the light of Jesus Christ and the darkness of this world. That is when we turn off the light of the worldís chamber (that is full of daily cares, our physical needs, desires) in our heart, and allow God and only God to shine in glory. How? By praising Him, glorifying Him, thanking Him and singing "Holy Holy Holy Lord God Almighty who was and is and is to come" (Revelation 4:8)

Sweet Jesus, we glorify You, praise You because You have graciously granted us the authority to joyfully sing "Now salvation, and strength, and the Kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser ' has been cast down.'" (Revelation 12:10) Amen.
