Make Time For Love

Time is a precious commodity which often gets pushed to the wayside in marriage. For this reason it is important to make conscious efforts to spend time together, not just as "mommy" or "daddy," but husband and wife. Making time for each other shows your spouse it is important that you be alone with him or her. They will be flattered! One suggestion is to add a "date night" to your week. Find a baby-sitter or drop off the kids at grandma's house so the two of you can spend quality time alone as a couple; whether it's dinner at a restaurant, taking in a movie at the theatre, or a walk hand in hand on the beach. Even if your budget is limited you can have a wonderful and fun time by doing such things as cooking a meal together, or play a game of cards or a board game.Remember how you used to hold hands when first dating? If you have gotten out of the habit, it might behoove you to know that touch not only feels good physically, but it has emotional benefits as well. Caring touches as spontaneous hugs can bring a strong sense of safety, comfort, and security; necessary qualities for a thriving marriage!Remember those little grooming touches you used to partake of when you were dating, such as having well-brushed hair, clean body and fresh breath? Why pay less attention to these things simply because we are comfortably in love? The point here is to just reveal to your spouse they are special, showing them it matters if you have or have not their attention and affection. Indifference gives the subtle message we don’t care, so, never stop showing your spouse you do care. Clothes, grooming and fun times don’t make the marriage, love does, but like a finely tuned engine, it takes many small parts to keep the whole marriage machine functioning. In similar manner, we also need to make time for God, not just offering Him the remaining bits and pieces of our days, but placing our relationship with Him as top priority, as He is all-deserving of this seat of honor.
