Contentment #264

What is your level of contentment? Most of us lack real contentment of heart. Why?Because deep contentment comes from God. He promises, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Listen to how the apostle Paul responded to this promise. "Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for when I am weak, then I am strong" (2 Corinthians 12:10-11). Would you respond in this way? I probably wouldn't. In the midst of weakness, insults, and difficulties I'm prone to grumble. We often grumble when we're discontented. We grumble about the boss. He's just too bossy. Or we grumble about our pay. That grumbling shows we need to learn to make do with what we have while we are looking to the future and working hard to achieve specific educational goals and employment goals. But in order to learn contentment, we need spiritual help. The proper place to turn is Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us Jesus Christ is our source of contentment. Again, listen to the testimony of Paul. "I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:11-13). Yes, we can learn to be content in every situation God places us if we are strengthened by Jesus Christ.
