A More Sure Word#084

It would be nice to be like Moses and have God speak to us right out of heaven with a big booming voice. Then we would know for sure what He wants us to do! Others ask, "Aren't we supposed to have modern day prophets who speak for God?" Then surely we would have sure directions to follow! The apostle Peter stood on the Mount of Transfiguration with James and John and heard the very voice of God. When the face of Jesus shone like the sun, God the Father said, "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased" (Matthew 17:5). And Peter says, "We ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven" (2 Peter 1:18). What an experience! It is one we all covet. But wait a minute! The apostle Peter tells us "We have the even surer prophetic word" (2 Peter 1:19). Imagine, we have a word from God which is better than an audible voice from heaven! Can that be? Yes it can. Peter is referring to the Bible! The Bible is the word of God. "Men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God" (2 Peter 1:21). This means that the Bible originated with God and that God guided the thoughts and words of those who wrote the Bible. When we read the Bible, God is speaking to us. Because the Bible is written, we do not have to depend on our feeble memories to remember God's word, we can open the Bible and read it. We do not need someone to speak for God. God speaks for Himself in the Bible! It is a more sure word! Don't neglect to listen to God. Read the Bible!
