God Is Love #114We readily confuse the two. Valentine's Day is a day for card companies to make a buck. They do. Every day is a day for love. Valentine's Day is another day for florists to flourish. They rake in the cash too. Every day is a day for love. Valentine's Day is a day for sweet school programs, red hearts, white lace, smiles, and some blushing. Every day is a day for love. Valentine's Day is a day for special dates and candlelight dinners. Every day is a day for love. Valentine's Day is a day to remember your sweet heart. Every day is a day for love. Come to think of it, if we did not reserve the hearts and flowers for February 14 and lavish our love on that special person every day of the year, our world might be far different. Perhaps we have forgotten the root and source of love. "God is love" (1 John 4:8). Sloppy sentimentalism practiced once a year is a poor substitute. More than that, we do not know the difference between love, gratifying others, and lust, gratifying ourselves.
