Shine Brightly

"I will lead the blind in ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them." Isaiah 42:16"It's your turn, you take her!" my teenage daughter says to her younger sister, as I once again trip over something in my path.It is no easy task being the adolescent daughters of a legally blind mom. My peripheral vision has deteriorated due to a disease called retinitis pigmentosa; a disease with no cure. Days can be frustrating as I spill, trip and stumble my way through life. Giving up driving, too, was a difficult, but necessary decision and my husband is now responsible for chauffeuring all of us around.

Before you begin to feel pity for me, I have good news. As my frantic pace of life was forced to slow down, my faith life has quickended. As I began to worry about becoming a burden to others, I have found new purpose in helping others.

As an added blessing, my husband and I have developed a new appreciation for each other and I am thankful for his patient presence and uncomplaining manner. My children do complain, but always rise to the occasion. With new compassion for others, they are learning that even if it isn't in their plans, they should help those in need. As they reach out to others, multiple blessings return to them.

God will continue His good work in me and in you. As we turn our lives over to Him, He will light our path. We can reflect that light as we care for others, pray for others and make a difference in this world. As my eyes continue to dim, I have the only light that matters. Shine brightly today!
