Conversion #11

While driving, you have probably seen what appeared to be a big pool of water in the road. But when you came to the place, no water.It was only a mirage. If you are really thirsty and you chase a mirage, you will be sorely disappointed. The thirst for things in the world is like that. When you thirst for a better job, more money, another car, more expensive clothes and a bigger house...; the list could go on and on! When you really thirst for such things because the grass looks greener in your neighbor's yard, you usually wind up disappointed. Why? Because such things are a mirage! They don't give the lasting pleasure you think they will. That's why many folks turn to alcohol and drugs. They think drinking or popping pills will give them a more lasting sense of contentment. But again, if you take this route, you will be sorely disappointed. You will be chasing a mirage! You see, there is only one person who can really quench your thirst for lasting contentment. That person is the Lord Jesus Christ. Listen to what He said to a woman who was drawing water from a well, "Everyone who drinks of this water shall thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water which I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up into eternal life" (John 4:13-14). Jesus is talking about satisfying all your innermost cravings. He doesn't necessarily mean that He will give you a new car or a new house. But He'll do something far better. He'll give you the gift of His Holy Spirit. God's Spirit in you will fill you with a peace that passes understanding.
