God with Skin OnThe little girl was afraid to go to sleep by herself. When her mother told her that God was watching over her - her tiny voice quivered, "I know, but I want God with some skin on!" Since before time began, God has desired to have a tangible relationship with humans. He walked in the cool of the day with Adam and Eve. He also walked with Enoch who, at the age of 365, did not die but just walked on home to God's house one day. Noah (the Ark-builder), Abraham (father of many nations) and Moses (Prince of Egypt) accomplished significant historical events through faith and trust in a personal relationship with God. The ultimate act of God to have fellowship with humankind was the incarnation of Jesus Christ - Emmanuel, God with us, as the little girl said, "God with some skin on." While Jesus walked on earth he worked many miracles and taught about love, peace, goodness and true joy - attributes of His heavenly Father and attributes of mankind when reconciled with God. He came to encourage a relationship not a religion. In fact, the maddest Jesus ever got was when religious merchants had turned the church from a house of prayer into a marketplace. He was so insistent that we know God - he literally staked his life on it. His death and resurrection assured us of a relationship with Creator God in this life and beyond - the relationship desired by God from the beginning of time. Religion can be just a bunch of rules but a relationship? Now, that is an adventure worth investigating!
