The First Christmas Message #189Well, the first message preached about Christ's birth came long before. In fact, God preached the first Christmas message in the Garden of Eden, just after man's fall into sin. Adam and Eve were there. Satan was also there in the form of a serpent. God promised that old serpent, "I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed. He shall bruise you on the head and you shall bruise him on the heel" (Genesis 3:15). This was an amazing promise concerning the birth of Christ! God promised the woman she would have children. God promised that one of her children would conquer the devil. Notice that it was specifically the woman's child who would conquer Satan. In other words, the savior would be the child of the woman alone. Isaiah picked up this promise when He said, "Behold a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call his name Immanuel" (Isaiah 7:14). Eve believed this promise! In fact when she bore her first son she made a great confession of faith. Listen to how Martin Luther translated Eve's confession, "I have the Man, the Lord" (Genesis 4:1). The margin of the New American Standard Version says, "I have gotten a man, the Lord." Such was her faith! Such is Jesus our Savior! When He was born, He was declared to be "God with us" (Matthew 1:21). Do you believe in the Savior as Eve did? Do you believe in the God/Man, Jesus Christ?
