Are You Sleeping, Brother John?

"Wake up, wake up, Deborah! Wake up, wake up, break out in song." Judges 5:12
Most of us have sung the children's' round, "Are you sleeping, are you sleeping, brother John, brother John? Morning bells are ringing, morning bells are ringing, ding dong ding, ding dong ding."

When I sang it with my grandchildren recently, I thought to myself, "are you sleeping, Marion Smith, in your spiritual life? Do you need a wake up call? Are the morning bells ringing; bells of truth, light, love, compassion, and peace; ringing in your spiritual ears and heart? Are you sleeping at the switch, dimly aware of the power that the Holy Spirit wants to provide for you? Are your senses dull? Do you see the miracles happening all around you, each and every day? Are you numb from an overbearing sense of responsibility to family, job, community and church? If so, it's time to snap out of it! Wake up, wake up you sleepyhead, and start singing praises to our Lord!

Are you asleep or awake? Aware or in a state of dullness? Alive in Him or living in the land of mediocrity? Now is the time for each of us to evaluate.
