Grammar"Faith and work, work and faith, they fit together like hand and glove." James 2:18b (The Message) It has been a long time since I have even thought about sentence structure, much less had an analogy for this subject. Do you remember when we had to find the subject and verb in a sentence and diagram it? It was eons ago for me, in elementary or high school, but I do remember doing this. There were usually more than two words in the sentences we had to diagram, but the correct two words can make a sentence complete. In the Bible there is such a sentence: "Jesus wept." Just two little words, but they give the complete thought. We can feel His heartbreak and picture the tears rolling down His face, can't we? In the book of James, in the Bible, we get a lesson about two words. They are faith and action. They go together just as well as subject and verb, although they do not make a complete sentence. James tells us that our faith is made complete by action. He reminds us to put our faith into action by serving the poor and needy and through this, we ourselves will grow in spiritual maturity. There are so many ways to serve, physically, emotionally and spiritually, that the list is practically endless. Don't miss the opportunity God lays out before you. Allow yourself to be all that God wants you to be by listening to His gentle urgings in your heart, and following them.
