Hands Off

"Do not lay a hand on the boy." Genesis 22:12

Often times we try to help others to the point of making them too dependant upon us. It usually is not intentional, but it happens. I know a mother who has given her son money to get him out of jams for many years. It is time to take her "hands off" and allow God to be in control. It is her responsibility to pray for the son, and then give God the opportunity to allow the son to make a change in his life.

This situation is not new. In the Bible, in the book of Genesis, Abraham led his son Isaac right to the sacrificial altar, laid the fire and then had to take his "hands off" his son. When he did this, an angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, saying, "Do not lay a hand on your son." God stepped in and provided a ram to be sacrificed, instead.

If you are in a situation which needs a "hands off" solution, ask God to help you. We called it tough love awhile ago; maybe we still do. Whatever you call it, ask God for guidance, wisdom and strength to persevere in the situation, and He will give it to you.
