Real Possibilities For Change - Message #215

When we start trying to make significant changes in our lives, we find out how stubborn old habits can be. They are very difficult to break. We need help.

Real help in breaking bad habits comes from God. First, you need to see those old habits as sinful. They are not only distasteful to you, they are abhorrent to God. Second, you need to turn to God and ask forgiveness. Third, you need to ask God for special power to turn away from those old habits. Fourth, you must work on forming new habits to replace the old ones.

In all of this, you must realize that Christ gave His life for Christians "that we should no longer be slaves to sin" (Romans 6:6). Christ breaks the rule and reign of sinful bad habits. Christ gives Christian people inner strength. With this new inner strength, bad habits can be conquered and new good habits formed. You can therefore follow the Bible when it says, "Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness and holiness" (Romans 6:19).

Are you really serious about forming new habits in the next weeks and months? Seek out Jesus Christ. He breaks the power of old habits. He led us into new ones.
