Two are Better than One"Faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead." James 2:17 Today I was spot cleaning some of my husband's tee shirts. I chose to use bleach, which I poured directly on the spots. I let this sit a few minutes and then threw them in the washing machine. Usually, if I want completely effective cleaning, I add dishwasher detergent on the stain and rub vigorously. The combination of the two ingredients usually works wonders. When I removed these particular shirts from the washer, I was very disappointed, as the stains had really not noticeably lifted. God reminded me that the same principle is true in the Christian life. In the Bible, James 2:17, God tells us faith without works is dead. If I just pour on good deeds, or works, (as I did with the bleach) but do not have faith, the result will be as ineffective as my bleaching had been. It takes both faith and works to fulfil the potential God has planned for me. I found it most amazing God could remind me of one of His truths through such a mundane chore as doing the laundry! Lord, I pray you would always help us to be open for your insights and please allow the Holy Spirit to keep our faith/good works walk in balance.
