What is Eternal Life?

How do you get to know some one? Sure, you can introduce yourself. But if that other person does not open up, what do you do? That other fellow or gal must let you get to know them.

It's the same way with God. You can step outside and say, "Well, here I am God." But it will do little good. God must reveal Himself to you. God must show Himself to you. That's the only way to get to know God.

Fortunately, God has already revealed Himself to you and to me. He has shown Himself to us in Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "He who has seen Me has seen the Father," (John 14:9). Jesus Christ is God in human form. "He existed in the form of God," but entered this world, "being made in the likeness of men" (Philippians 2:6 & 7). So if you want to get to know God, you must get to know Jesus Christ.

You can get to know Jesus because Jesus reveals Himself to us in the Bible. The Spirit of Christ was speaking through all of those who wrote in the Bible. The prophets of old wondered what "the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow" 1 Peter 1:11).

So you can open your Bible and learn about God through Jesus Christ. As you read the Bible and pray, that is, talk to God, God will reveal Himself to you. He will show you why Christ came into the world. He will explain to you your need of Christ because of your sin. He will talk to you about forgiveness and the new life that comes to you through Christ. As you get to know God through Jesus Christ, you will gain eternal life.
