The Uncool 2: An Enlightened Society

In an enlightened society, all ideas are equally valid. Even if it means condoning lies and destructive behavior, the only ideas suppressed are those that suggest that something could be absolutely true. Thus was the faith of the Uncool in their Savior. An absolute truth-the only thing in an enlightened society which could not be tolerated.

Understand, the faith of the Uncool in their Savior had nothing to do with their being "spiritually enlightened" or "spiritually mature" or any such thing. Nor did it depend on their intelligence. Their message consisted simply of facts that their Savior had seen to it that the simplest of minds could grasp-if they only would.

Each citizen had the capacity to admit his or her need of a Savior. In fact, the frail and the weak (of body or mind) may even have had an advantage in this department. Those who were strong or smart, however, were no less needy. Some only deluded themselves into thinking they'd "transcended this low level of spiritual understanding." Thus, intelligence was sometimes even a stumbling block on the way to the Savior, even though it was a gift from Him! How much more did those citizens deserve their fate when they took the very gifts He'd given them and used them against Him? Still, despite their civilization's decline, the citizens went on thinking of themselves as an enlightened society and feeling very self-righteous at mocking the "intolerance" of the Uncool.
