The Time is Now!

Timing can be everything. Marry to soon, before you have a chance to really know what makes your spouse tic, and the end result could be thoughts of regret and divorce. Open a bottle of wine too early, before it has a chance to mellow and age, and you could end up with a less than desirable drink.

When our dog of sixteen years had to be put to sleep due to his suffering from age-related disease, the vet who made the house call that difficult day told me, "The best thing you can do is get another dog right away." I didn't say anything at the moment, but I thought to myself, "How rude and insensitive!" In my eyes, her saying this to me was just like someone remarking to a new widow who has just buried her husband of thirty years, "The best thing you can do is find another husband!"

Weeks later when we adopted two new dogs from the Humane Society, I realized the vet was right. The new dogs DID help me heal from the grief and loss quicker, and with them also returned that special type of joy that only a family pet can bring, and only an animal lover can truly understand.

My conclusion was that what the vet had to say was truth, but it was extremely ill-timed.

Her helpful message was not welcomed or considered because it was the wrong time. However, when the time was right, it was only then that the truth she tried to offer me sunk in.

Your or a loved ones relationship with God may be the same way. Perhaps people who really care have tried to talk to you about inviting God into your life, but you may have never fully embraced their message because the timing wasn't right. Maybe you had just gotten over a trauma and needed more time to emotionally heal. Or maybe you were so drunk or high from drugs that nothing else seemed to matter in life but where you were going to find your next fix.

Whatever your reason may be for not having a relationship with God, unless your heart is open to accepting His love and warmth, it will never be the right time.

My dear friend, our heavenly Father is willing and able to accept you as you are right now; broken, hurting and impure. He is a Comforter; a Mender of hearts, and can wash those of us who cry out to Him clean of our sins so that we may be new creations!

Isn't NOW the time to finally be the man or woman you are called to be?
