A Member of Christ's Church? #152

There are a lot of people who claim to be members of the only true church. The problem is they belong to a number of different churches. These same folks claim you must belong to their organization in order to get to heaven. Many of them also say you must be baptized by them in the way they prescribe or you cannot receive forgiveness for your sins.

Oddly enough, the church against which Martin Luther and the other reformers protested made the same claim. That church assumed it was the only true church. That church said you had to be a part of its baptized membership to get to heaven. But the Protestant reformation began with a rebellion against such claims and a return to the Bible.

So beware of those who claim to be the only true church. There is no such thing in this world. All churches are, at best, imperfect. Return to the Bible and to Jesus Christ. The Bible says, "Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her" (Ephesians 5:25).

Is Christ's love restricted to a single denomination which claims to be the only true church? Absolutely not. The key is not a human claim on Christ's love. The important thing is to be a part of that great body of believers, past, present and future, who have, do and will enjoy Christ's exclusive and profound love! Salvation from sin and entrance into heaven depends upon experiencing Christ's love in the forgiveness of sins. You must trust in the person of Christ and His sacrifice as the only payment for your sins. When you do this, you are a member of Christ's Church. Forgiveness does not depend upon membership in a particular church or denomination; no matter how much some folks may insist upon it.
