The Church and the Spirit #136The church is not held in high regard by the world. God, however, has a very different opinion of His church. Paul says to Christians in the city of Ephesus about their place in the church: "So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit" (Ephesians 2:19-22). The church is a group of people who trust in the divine Son of God for their salvation. These people are being built together into a temple. In the Old Testament, the temple was a building. In the New Testament, the temple is people, the church. The gathered church becomes a special place in which to meet God. It becomes a special place to hear His voice through preaching and to worship Him through singing. It becomes a special place in which we can become partakers of the Holy Spirit and taste the powers of the age to come (Hebrews 6:4-5). If you want to meet with God, you should attend a Bible-believing church. You should also invite other people who need to meet God through Jesus Christ.
