The Best Resolution

American Heritage Dictionary defines resolution as: "The quality of being resolute. Something that has been resolved (to make a firm decision about). A formal statement of a decision voted."

On New Years, many people resolve to make the new year more profitable by giving up things in their lives that are negative or unproductive. It is common for many to give up things such as overeating, drinking too much, procrastinating, etc. From my own experience, people have a tendency to "give up" negatives rather than "seek out" something positive. In my opinion, the reason for this is, all too often, people don't know what good things they should be searching for or striving to achieve.

In the Bible, we are told it is God's desire for us to prosper and be in good health.

"Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good heath and that all may go well with you." (3 John 1:2)

It is also God's desire for us to be more than conquerors when facing trying situations.

"...in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us."
Romans 8:37

Through Christ, we CAN do all things... he is strength and comfort to our soul.

"I can do everything through him who gives me strength."
Philippians 4:13

To resolve putting off evil and negatives, is exactly what God calls us to do. We are to search out truth and goodness. This process is referred to as "renewing your mind."

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will." (Romans 12:2)

It is God's will that all men come to know His Son Jesus Christ as it is only through Him that we have salvation.

To resolve to give up overeating or procrastinating is all well and fine, but how much more important it is to resolve to seek out God and His Son Jesus Christ?
