DavidVisiting my nephew David was always fun. He loved to laugh and play. I can still see his face with that endearing, slightly crooked smile which was the result of a childhood injury to a facial nerve. He and my daughter would play for hours and we would hear peals of laughter floating through the hallway reassuring us, their mothers, that all was well. Their joy lightened our own hearts. But for all the love and joy he brought, we all knew what was inevitable for David. He was a victim of cystic fibrosis. Each day he had to take treatments and dozens of pills. His coughing at night would keep him from sleeping well. His breathing became an ever increasing problem. One night while when I heard the sound of his coughing, I slipped on my robe and went to his bedside. I told David the story of how God sent His Son to the world to give His life to pay for our sins so that we might be with Him forever after we leave this life and have Him in our hearts while we are still here. That night the eternal destiny of the little boy was changed when he asked God to forgive his sins and come into his heart. A couple of years later, when David was 14, an organization that grants the wishes of dying children selected David and granted his wish. His wish was to meet Michael Jackson. He and his mother were flown to California and there they spent time with the singer who was very generous and courteous to them. At David's funeral, the press made a big deal of his recent trip and of the celebrity he had visited. As I sat at the funeral I knew that the most recent trip David had made far exceeded the one he had made to California and that the One who was now showing him through His mansions was a light far brighter than any recording star. None of us knows when our last day on earth will come. If you were to die tonight, do you know for certain that you would spend eternity in heaven? You CAN know for sure.
