The Antartica Ice SheetAn interesting ENN (Environmental News Network) report came out in early December. It reported that "The west Antarctic ice sheet is not melting rapidly, is reasonably stable and has been so for more than a century, according to an international team of scientists. The ice sheet is the largest grounded repository of ice on the planet and some scientists caught up in the debate over global warming have argued that the melting of this ice sheet would lead to a dramatic rise in sea levels. Ironically, there were many that feared a global warming would melt this west Antarctic ice sheet causing wide-spread flooding. Cities near oceans would be flooded and farm lands ruined. This report now eases our fears for a while until some new report comes out. Another of our fears is extinguished as well since this huge Antarctic ice sheet has been around for more than a century and will be around for a while; this ice sheet is solid. This reminds us of God who has also been around for more than a century and will not break away from humanity. God, the Rock, will not melt away, but will calm our fears and extinguish our trepidation. As a Rock, He will give us the wherewithal to deal with our circumstances, though tough it may be. Psalm 62:6 says it well: "He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken." God is not a cold, icy experience however. If we allow Him to enter our lives, He will melt away our fears, our concerns, and give us a Spring freshness in life. Does this sound like something that you have been longing for? Are you homesick for that type of relationship?
